Squash tourney honours SP Maria Eboma RTD promotes young talent

   A squash tournament has been organised in honour of the late Senior Police Officer, Maria Eboma, to sustain her legacy of philanthropy and support for young squash players. The tournament held Sept. 1, at Police College in memory of her posthumous birthday. Seun Peters, the Tournament Director, said the competition was organised to commemorate Eboma’s birthday and provide a platform for nurturing young talents in squash. Peters said Tosin Bejide emerged winner of the tournament, while Friday Daniel and Daniel Eniafoghe finished second and third, respectively. He said Bejide received a cash prize of N100,000, while Daniel and Eniafoghe received N80,000 and N50,000, respectively, for their performances. Peters said the tournament was conceived as a platform to honour Mama Eboma and sustain her legacy of philanthropy, particularly her contribution to the development of young squash players. U.S. investors remain Nigeria’s largest tech capital source – Consul General

 ​‌‌​⁠‌​‍⁠⁠‌‍‌  The United States Consul General in Lagos, Mr Brandon Hudspeth says U.S.-based investors have remained the largest source of external capital for Nigeria’s technology ecosystem over the past decade.   Hudspeth made the assertion on Wednesday in Lagos, at GITEX Nigeria panel discussion, with the title: “From Startup to Scale-Up: Building Globally Competitive Businesses through U.S.-Nigeria Partnerships”.   The Consul General said that U.S. sourced funding currently accounted for about 60 per cent of external capital entering Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.   He said that the investments were coming from major American companies, as well as venture capital firms supporting Nigeria’s rapidly growing technology and innovation sector.   “For the past 10 years, U.S.-based investors have consistently been the largest source of external capital in the Nigerian tech ecosystem.   “U.S. sourced funding accounts today for 60 per cent of all externa...

Lagos deploys 220 new compactor trucks to tackle mounting waste challenge

   The Lagos State Government says it will deploy 220 newly acquired compactor trucks to strengthen waste evacuation and improve environmental management across the state. Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Hamzat, disclosed this on Saturday during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Festac, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos. Hamzat said the additional trucks would complement the operations of Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators and expand the state’s capacity to evacuate refuse, particularly from areas where existing arrangements were struggling to meet demand. “The state government will be bringing in another 220 trucks to make sure that we supplement our PSP,” he said. He explained that the decision was necessitated by the increasing volume of waste generated in the state as a result of its rapidly expanding population.
